Zespół Max Klezmer Band został założony w 1998 roku przez Maxa Kowalskiego. Od początku swojego działania zespół bazuje na muzyce żydowskiej, kontynuując niezwykłą fuzję muzyki klezmerskiej, jazzowej i improwizowanej. W swoim nowym składzie zespół znosi kolejne muzyczne bariery gatunkowe, czerpiąc z hipnotycznych melodii sefardyjskich, dzikich klezmerskich tańców oraz silnych elementów jazu, jazz rocka i improwizacji.
