Biography
----------
He learned guitar at the age of eight. His early scenes in Ireland date from his ten years, he won a talent contest at age 12 in Cork, where he spent part of his life. He left school and turned professional at fifteen. Rory Gallagher plays the saxophone, mandolin, harmonica ...
His first group is "Fontana Show Band" which became "Impact Showband", but his career really began in the year 1967 the group "Taste", where he was already on guitar and vocals. The band produced three studio albums "First Taste" recorded in July 1967 in Germany, Taste and On the Boards, and two "lives", Live at the Montreux1 at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Live at the Isle of Wight, drawn from a concert at the festival Isle of Wight and released long after the group split in 1970.
Rory Gallagher continues solo (no group name, and with a new bassist Gerry McAvoy, and several drummers, as Wilgar Cammbell and Rod De'Ath, Ted McKenna ...), producing more than a dozen albums (not counting numerous compilations): Rory Gallagher and Deuce in 1971, Blueprint and Tattoo in 1973, Irish Tour in 1974, Against the Grain in 1975 with the album cover shows his old Fender Stratocaster threadbare, and Calling Card in 1976.
His performances made him find success to America, and continental Europe where he was very popular (especially in Germany). It is worn as an idol in his home country, Ireland, where he brings the fans, despite the conflict.
He made his first appearance at the Olympia in Paris November 23, 1974 in one of Saturday afternoon musicoramas programmed by Christian Brunet. In 1972 he was voted "Best Musician of the Year" by the magazine Melody Makers, and the album Live in Europe among the "Top Ten" both in Britain and internationally.
He died in London June 14, 1995, from complications after a liver transplant. He was 47 years.2.
