Un “best” con inediti di 10 anni fa, ma che rimane ancora oggi la raccolta più buona fatta da quel 1999 ad oggi. Da “My Father’s Eyes”, che spopolò persino su Mtv, all’inedito “Blue Eyes Blue”, passando per una versione live imperdibile di “Wonderful Tonight” e le versioni unplugged che hanno fatto storia di “Layla” e “Tears in Heaven”.
Ci sono album che a distanza di tempo rimangono pietre miliari nella propria discografia, e oltre al godimento che se ne fa alla sua uscita, ci si rende conto che e’ sempre un amuleto immancabile, che scandisce i vari periodi della propria vita.
“Chronicles” e’ uno di quei dischi riusciti a meraviglia per la scelta dei brani fatti, per la sequenza studiata ad hoc, per unire sia chi si stesse allora approcciando per la prima volta a un artista longevo e immortale, sia per i vecchi fans.

Eric Clapton è nato il 30 marzo 1945 a Ripley (Inghilterra). Era un bambino calmo, timido, solitario e, per sua stessa definizione, "cattivo", molto determinato nel perseguire i suoi obiettivi nell'apprendimento musicale, ma anche dotato di grande senso dell'umorismo.
Trascorse gli anni della scuola media alla Hollyfield School di Surbiton e per il suo 13° compleanno ricevette in regalo una chitarra spagnola Hoya.
Imparare la chitarra si rivelò per Eric tanto difficile che fu sul punto di abbandonarla. Sin da ragazzino fu influenzato dal blues e si allenava molte ore per imparare gli accordi e riprodurre la musica di artisti blues, che ascoltava con il suo registratore.
Clapton inizia la sua carriera come solista esibendosi nelle strade. Entra giovanissimo negli Yardbirds per poi passare con i Bluesbreakers di John Mayall. Con lui incide il disco Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton.
In questo periodo conosce il batterista Ginger Baker e il pianista, compositore e bassista Jack Bruce. Con loro fonda il gruppo rock-blues dei Cream.
Inoltre suona nei primi album di Frank Zappa, incidendo parti vocali e di chitarra.
