Episode Plot:
Detectives Lennie Briscoe and Ed Green investigate a possible crime when a landlord discovers broken glass and blood in an apartment that had been abandoned by the tenants. Amy and James Beltran had lived there for only for months and she had recently given birth to a boy, Kyle. They quickly track down James, whose is living with his parents, but he refuses to tell them anything other that the baby is with his wife. A local priest says James has been attending mass up to three times a week recently but not with his wife and child. When they finally find her, she insists that the baby is with her husband. When they find the baby's remains buried in his parents backyard, the medical examiner determines that the baby starved to death over a period of several weeks. It turns out Amy was having difficulty breastfeeding her baby and after getting advice from an overzealous lactation counselor, she thought it was wrong to give the baby formula. Guilt or innocence is left up to the judge in a bench trial.

DESCRIPTION
The show follows a crime, ususally adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points. The first half of the show concentrates on the investigation of the crime by the police, the second half follows the prosecution of the crime in court.

Series Plot: In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.
Episode plot: When the body of a fourteen-year-old girl is found floating in the Hudson River, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler think she was smuggled into the country by sex traffickers. To identify the body, Detective Benson goes undercover as a Madame and busts sex trafficker Alik. When Alik makes a deal with ADA Kim Greylek he identifies the body as Elsa Lychkoff. To the detectives' surprise, Elsa wasn't a prostitute, but a child prodigy. Prying more into the victim's secret life, the detectives investigate her elite boarding school and her roommate Jennifer Banks, who in turn, leads them to compulsive gambler, Joseph Lychkoff, Elsa's father. When the motive of Joseph seems obvious as to why he would kill his daughter, Detective Odafin Tutuola discovers some new evidence that could change the entire case.
