"September 5 - La diretta che cambiò la storia" racconta il momento cruciale che ha trasformato per sempre il modo di fare informazione in diretta. Ambientato durante le Olimpiadi di Monaco del 1972, il film ripercorre la trasformazione improvvisa del team di ABC Sports, passato da una tranquilla copertura sportiva alla cronaca in tempo reale del sequestro degli atleti israeliani da parte di un gruppo terroristico. Al centro della storia c’è Geoff (John Magaro), un giovane produttore deciso a farsi strada sotto la guida del leggendario Roone Arledge (Peter Sarsgaard). Con l’aiuto di Marianne (Leonie Benesch), interprete tedesca, e del suo mentore Marvin Bader (Ben Chaplin), Geoff si muove tra le sfide tecniche e le scelte morali di una diretta che ha segnato la storia della televisione.
