In the year 2047, a group of astronauts are sent to investigate and salvage the long-lost starship Event Horizon. The ship mysteriously disappeared seven years ago on its maiden voyage, and with its return comes even more mystery as the crew of the Lewis and Clark discover the real truth behind its disappearance and something even more terrifying.
Nell'anno 2047, viene organizzata una spedizione allo scopo di recuperare la Event Horizon, un prototipo di nave spaziale progettato per raggiungere le stelle più lontane e scomparso sette anni prima. Autore del progetto è il dottor Weir, uno scienziato perseguitato dal ricordo del suicidio della moglie Claire. Della spedizione affidata ad un gruppo di specialisti nel salvataggio spaziale, fanno parte il comandante Miller, il navigatore Stark, i tecnici Peters e Cooper, l'ingegnere Justin, il dottor D.J. e il pilota Smith. Solo dopo essersi inoltrati nello spazio, Weir spiega che la Event Horizon è stata la prima nave spaziale progettata per superare la velocità della luce e muoversi da un punto all'altro dello spazio in maniera pressoccè istantanea ed è scomparsa dopo l'attivazione del "sistema gravitazionale", il rivoluzionario dispositivo tecnologico di cui è dotata. Weir fa poi ascoltare una registrazione, unico indizio sulla misteriosa scomparsa: si sentono grida e lamenti disumani. L'equipaggio comincia ad avere paura, che aumenta quando appare la sagoma dell'Event Horizon e i biomonitor, in cerca di forme di vita, registrano dati strani e anormali...
