Turkish and his close friend/accomplice Tommy get pulled into the world of match fixing by the notorious Brick Top. Things get complicated when the boxer they had lined up gets badly beaten by Mickey, who comes into the equation after Turkish, an unlicensed boxing promoter wants to buy a caravan off of Travellers. They then try to convince Mickey not only to fight for them, but to lose for them too. Whilst all this is going on, a huge diamond heist takes place, and a fistful of motley characters enter the story, including 'Cousin Avi', 'Boris The Blade', 'Franky Four Fingers' and 'Bullet Tooth Tony'. Things go from bad to worse as it all becomes about the money, the guns, and the damned dog.
La storia è un ricco intreccio di avventure criminali: scommesse clandestine, omicidi, rapimenti, tranelli, doppi giochi, imboscate e via dicendo. Tutto ha inizio ad Anversa, dove Frankie “Quattro dita” (Benicio del Toro) rapina una banca che custodisce, tra i vari gioielli, un grosso diamante. Il delinquente fa ritorno a Londra per rivendere la refurtiva, ma viene intercettato da Boris “Lametta” Yurinov, un russo ex KGB. Conoscendo il vizio di Frankie per le scommesse, lo attira in una sala giochi: lì viene derubato da Sol, commesso in un banco di pegni, con la complicità di Vinny e Tyrone.
Nel frattempo, il commerciante di gioielli Doug “La zucca” Denovitz viene a sapere del furto del diamante e informa suo cugino Avi (Dennis Farina) di New York, che parte immediatamente per la capitale inglese per impadronirsi della preziosa gemma.
Intanto Turco (Jason Statham), voce narrante della vicenda, e Tommy, il suo socio nell'organizzazione della boxe clandestina, vengono truffati da Mickey O’Neil (Brad Pitt), uno zingaro irlandese che mette KO il loro campione, George Meraviglia......
