Paul Atreides e sua madre Jessica si trovano tra i Fremen insieme al leader di un loro clan, Stilgar, e alla guerriera Chani. Dovranno però imparare a farsi accettare dall'intero popolo Fremen e soprattutto Paul, che Stilgar crede essere l'atteso Messia di Dune promesso dalle Bene Gesserit, dovrà concretizzare la propria profezia, per guadagnare uno sterminato e micidiale esercito e con esso avere la possibilità di vendicare suo padre, il Duca Leto. Ma la profezia che vede Paul non è solo un sogno di vittoria bensì un massacro di inaudite proporzioni, una guerra santa che incendierà l'intera galassia. Il barone Harkonnen intanto continua a tramare per prendere il controllo dell'impero e, di fronte ai fallimenti di Rabban contro i Fremen, decide di affidarsi a un altro più letale rampollo: Feyd-Rautha, che le Bene Gesserit ritengono possa dare alla luce la loro attesa bambina suprema.
