Tra il 1976 e il 1978 Robert Nesta Marley, detto "Bob", vive anni intensi, in un'alternanza di grandi gioie e momenti dolorosi. La scelta di indire un concerto a Kingston per riappacificare i due principali partiti politici di Giamaica si rivela ancor più pericolosa delle aspettative: Bob e la moglie Rita subiscono un attentato, ma, benché feriti, riescono a sopravvivere. Bob lascia quindi temporaneamente la Giamaica per trovare rifugio a Londra, dove ad accoglierlo, con curiosità mista ad ammirazione, c'è il popolo punk. Il ritorno in patria sarà da trionfatore e pacificatore.
