DESCRIPTION
After the unsolved murder of his wife, Adrian Monk develops obsessive-compulsive disorder, which includes his terror of germs and contamination. His condition costs him his job as a prominent homicide detective in the San Francisco Police Department, but he continues to solve crimes with the help of his assistant and his former boss.

Series Plot: An ex-cop suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder solves crimes with various (and usually exasperated) sidekicks. The 'defective detective' may have an abundance of phobias (heights, crowds, and even milk), but also razor-sharp deductive skills, which he uses to help the San Francisco police with especially baffling cases.
Episode plot: Monk goes undercover as an office worker and revels in the office routines and actually starts making friends and a possible romance as he tries to solve a murder that occurred in a parking garage next to the office building as well as who injured the hand of the man who hired him whose hand was slammed into a car door probably by the murderer. But Monk's new found popularity may come to a screeching halt if he won't put on the pair of used bowling shoes for the showdown match between his office team and their rival team.
