Lady is a thoroughbred dog living with a rich family in a warm house. A tramp is a street dog who, although weaker than a lion and a tiger, honors freedom and therefore does not perform in a circus. By chance, two dog hearts find each other — and real animal love begins.
"The Lady and the Tramp" is Disney's first live-action remake and feature film, which is released not in theaters, but immediately on the company's new streaming service. Curiously, its online premiere took place simultaneously with another Disney+ exclusive - the comedy "Nicole", which, according to many critics, unsuccessfully exploits the Christmas theme. Charlie Bean's cinema, as it is easy to guess from the experience of past studio remakes, is also rich in exploitation, although the canon does not disfigure beyond recognition. On the other hand, it would be better to disfigure than mercilessly chew.
As in other frame-by-frame remakes of Disney classics, there is a desire not to step away from your favorite stories. The Lady and the Tramp go through the second — and perhaps not the last — circle of hell, in which their old adventures are destined to loop from time to time, without hope of the slightest change. And everything will repeat as of old: acquaintance, eating spaghetti, parting, love, pharmacy, street, lantern. However, as a product of nostalgia, "Lady and the Tramp" fulfills its sentimental function. The golden rule of "No matter what happens" already works here — reinterpretations in the film not one iota, but repeating the old plot turns out to be generally tolerable.
But if the release of, for example, "The Lion King" from a creative point of view could be explained by the introduction of new technologies that can visually enrich the story, then this remake as a phenomenon is more difficult to justify. The exotic settings of the original "Aladdin" or "Cinderella" were transformed even in their live-action versions, becoming almost the main advantage of the new films. The setting of Charlie Bean's "Lady and the Tramps" is urban, gray, and dreary. In an attempt to make the world more realistic, the authors create the most nondescript environment, which deprives cinema of any expressiveness. Although the original, it is worth noting, was colorful and visually inventive
