Additional information: Russian sacred music attracted many great composers, who left beautiful works in this genre. You will hear fragments from large-scale compositions by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff - "All-Night Vigil" and two "Liturgies of St. John Chrysostom", a fragment from the choral concert, Bortnyansky; works by Alexander Arkhangelsky and Pavel Chesnokov, who brought to choral music a poetic immediacy of feeling coming from the influence of Tchaikovsky... The soloist of the concert was the outstanding Russian singer Irina Konstantinovna Arkhipova. In her performance, the greatest works of composers of Russian sacred music sounded uniquely. Arkhipova's performance was accompanied by the State Chamber Choir under the direction of Valery Polyansky. Founded in 1971, the Choir soon became very famous thanks to its constantly expanding repertoire, which included works of Russian and foreign classics, as well as works by contemporary composers, with whom conductor V. Polyansky is connected by a genuine creative friendship.
