Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988), Arrow 4k remaster, V2, directed by Stephen Chiodo, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, commentary track, and English subtitles.
IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095444/
Video encoded in two-pass 11.5 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image.
English SDH subtitles OCRed, proofed and corrected.
Note : A quick re-encode of this film, which in my previous version had some blocking problems in certain scenes. A very light grain reduction plus increased bitrate completely fixed it, and it should now be flawless.
There's a certain magical thing that happens once in a while when someone has a really dumb idea, but they just kind of go with it, execute it really well, and don't once deviate from the original concept, try to make it "better" or "more realistic", but just go full balls to the wall. This is that kind of movie. If you like stuff like Braindead or Frankenhooker, this is probably right up your alley.
The premise is, well, ok, so the premise is that there are aliens that look exactly like scary clowns, and their spaceship looks like a circus tent, and all their technology mysteriously also looks like clown or circus related stuff like popcorn, clown cars, cotton candy, etc., but they're actually ruthlessly lethal, and come to earth to harvest people to eat. Our protagonist, a fun guy with the memorable name Mike Tobacco, teams up with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's ex, who happens to be a cop, to save their small town from clown-induced holocaust. Things predictably get silly. Just, you know, watch it.
Why this film got a 4k remaster is beyond me, but here it is, and it looks pretty good, excellent contrast and color, clean image, 5.1 remaster. The image is not entirely clean all the time, but all in all it looks great. The commentary track by the Chiodo brothers, who apart from creating this are accomplished practical effects artists, is also quite entertaining and informative.
