Overview: Hello there and welcome to my world. If you are reading this, you probably came across the description somewhere and thought "meh, nothing else to read" and purchased my book. Little did you know the true story behind this...well...um story. It begins with two best friends who grew up together, shaping each other’s personalities into the a** holes they are today. Well, at least one of them, but I’ll get to that momentarily. These two boys, lets call them Hunter and John, were all but inseparable. John excelled at music and being the funniest a** hole for miles around while Hunter dabbled, poorly I might add, in his humble writings. John respected Hunter’s writings as much as I, I mean Hunter, respected John’s musical prowess. One fine day, after reading one of Hunter’s horrifically detailed short stories about a serial killer, John asked him to write a story about him. Hunter agreed, never to realize the weight of that promise until one Sunday morning, his mother called crying. John had died, leaving Hunter without his best friend and doppelgänger. Hunter still thinks about that moment to this day. How the morning light crept through the bedroom window while Hunter stared at the ceiling, noticing how the popcorn created jagged shadows. Then everything started to blur as his chest was crushed beneath what he was hearing, each word stacking heavily upon the other until not even sound could escape his throat. Only tears existed and the horrific realization that Hunter had to make some of the hardest phone calls of his life to the circle of friends of which John was the center of. John not only left Hunter, but Valenta as well. There was also Nathanial and Depweg who were stricken with the loss of such a beloved character, and when all three found out that Hunter was keeping his promise to John and writing a book about him, they each wanted to be apart of that journey. Hunter asked them all what part they would like to play in this urban fantasy eulogy and each immediately knew what they wanted to be.
In the beginning, John was given the choice to avenge his family or die alongside them. He made his decision and has been seeking redemption ever since. Is it possible for a vampire, who has done unspeakable deeds, to change his inherent nature enough to go to Heaven once he takes the big sleep? As if by divine intervention, our witty anti-hero stumbles across his potential salvation in the form of Father Thomes Philseep. Only problem is the holy man has been battling evil entities, like John, his entire life. Can a preternatural being convince a warrior of the Light to help him cleanse his soiled soul — or does an eternity in the abyss of Hell await the abomination? Most importantly, did he leave the oven on?
1. I’m Glad You’re Dead
After helplessly witnessing the execution of his family, John is approached by a strange man that promises the power of revenge, for a price; his life for the ability to walk the mortal plane for eternity. Fast forward several hundred years where John finds himself with an unlikely ally, Father Thomes Philseep. Together, they have the holy mission of doing God’s will by protecting this plane from the nefarious evil that seeks the end of times. After centuries of feeding on mortal blood, if John’s blackened soul can get a little bleaching at the same time, well, all the better. Too bad the warlock, Nathanial Locke, who is a lackey of Satan himself, has other plans in mind for John. Despite his platinum tongue and razer whit, John might need some help from a supernatural buddy who has a hankering for meat and sheds in the winter.
2. Dawn and Quartered
Revenge is mine, so saith the John. After more than 500 years, Commander Godwin is dead and John’s family is finally avenged. Of course, actions have consequences and now those consequences demand payment from debt collectors in the form of demons below, and now, angels above. Great. Super. Could things possibly get any worse? Funny you should ask; yes, yes they can. A weird package is delivered, causing a huge headache, and an old friend has awoken to exact revenge of his own after our anti-hero trespassed against him. Can things be worked out over a steaming cup of blood? Probably not.
3. Shadow of a Doubt
King Oberon is betrayed by the Queens of Faerie and imprisoned in Mab’s dungeon. Fueled by the accelerant of purest rage, a decision is made, and a malevolent alliance is formed. Give a man no way out, and eventually, any payment becomes reasonable for revenge. The Shadow Court has sent their deadliest assassin to execute John by any means necessary with the intent of suffocating all of creation in absolute blackness. What threat could a featureless black cat with amethyst eyes possibly pose to our anti-hero? With the fate of the entire universe on the line, will John have the strength to climb to the top of the mountain? Or will crippling self-doubt weaken his grip and send him plummeting into a trench of overwhelming despair? Oh, and John gets a shiny new hammer and a snazzy suit.
3.5 Moonlight Equilibrium
We are all beasts that hunger from inside, trapped within a prison of flesh, just waiting to escape. Jose had made the unfortunate decision to work with the cartel under the guise of providing a better life for his loving wife, five-year-old son, and newborn daughter. All too late, Jose learns that we are free to make any decision in life that we want, but it’s the consequences we cannot avoid. An eerie howl reminiscent of a haunted train pierces the night, signifying that the hunt has begun . . .
4. Mouth of Madness
A powerful ally has gone insane and threatens to expose supernaturals to the entire world. Fueled by unbridled rage and endless sorrow, both the guilty and innocent will pay the ultimate price. Somewhere in a room illuminated by hellfire, a fierce enemy learns a terrible truth. Armed with the Spear of Destiny and power bestowed directly from Lucifer himself, a man will have his long-awaited revenge. The most powerful demon lord in existence has been summoned from the pits of Hell and given a target. Asmodeus will not stop until his master’s bidding is fulfilled, and a soul is claimed. A military force, armed with deadly silver rounds, has set a trap. The clock is ticking. Tick-tock, Tick-tock, John Cook. What decisions will be made? Who will be sacrificed? Enter the Mouth of Madness and face an impossible journey.
