The Chances are used to lame freaks as back neighbors, but the new couple is different. Virginia takes an instant liking to macho Gary, agreeing to keep mysterious packages for him. Burt makes a bad fall, landing him in a wheelchair, and is instantly suspicious, claiming Gary, who forces him to a humiliating thumb war, abuses his wife, even ax-murders her, but the police deputizes Barney as auxiliary officer as only response to the Chances, who exceeded the quota of loony calls. The truth about Gary proves even less likely.
