Jasper Wrath early on had a similar sound to Colorado’s Sugarloaf, in particular that bands first 3 albums (including Spaceship Earth), but references can also be drawn to Ten Years After and The Ides Of March with a smattering of early Yes. In other words expect some progressive stuff mixed in with pop and psych. Not a bad combination and this is pretty tasty stuff for an American band from this period.
The second disc is interesting with some newer tracks, including the Peter Gabriel inspired Big Life, and the ballad Where Does The Love Go which sounds closer to Cannata’s AOR solo works which I have never been a huge fan of. With Now Is The Time, and To Be Alive we start getting into the more interesting stuff with tracks that sound very 1975 with hints of Styx, Strongbow and Flight. The live material is cool as a bit of a fusion influence can be heard, and the demos offer a glimpse at the origins of the live material.
A very nice compilation from one of the better early US progressive bands.
