Группа London не оставила после себя большой дискографии, но существовала она не зря. В Голливудской глэм-рок-тусовке London стал заметным пристанищем для многих из тех, кто потом взлетел высоко.
Группы была основана в стенах Starwood Club в 1978 году Lizzie Grey и Blackie Lawless. Lawless тогда играл на гитаре и пел в группе Sister, и параллельно участвовал в нескольких концертах New York Dolls, а Grey до этого терзал шестиструнку в группе Tear Garden. Дополнили состав "лондонцев" басист Nikki Sixx и барабанщик Dane Rage.
Место у микрофонной стойки занял Michael White, который и голосом, и внешностью походил на Роберта Планта. Но пел он в группе недолго: поссорился с коллегами и отчалил, позже создав проект имени себя "The White". Вскоре собрался в путь и Blackie Lawless - чтобы заняться созданием своей главной группы W.A.S.P. Тем не менее, London не собирался завязывать - ведь Grey, Sixx и Rage были дееспособным ядром, которое предстояло лишь дополнить.
В 1979 г. на место Lawless и White пришли вокалист Henry Valentine и клавишник John St. John. Однако Valentine в вокалистах не задержался - его место занял английский певец Nigel Benjamin, ранее имевший практику в группах Mott и English Assassin.
