Note : Neil Marshall may be best known today for directing some of the biggest and most epic episodes of Game of Thrones, as well as the failed Hellboy reboot, but his first debut feature is a badass action-horror movie about a group of British soldiers going up against a pack of werewolves in the Scottish wilderness. It's in my opinion one of the best werewolf movies ever made, up there with An American Werewolf in London and Ginger Snaps, but this one is balls to the wall action, basically no angst and transformation scenes, just a soldiers under siege against impossible odds film along the lines of Zulu, Assault on Precinct 13, and Aliens. It uses its limited budget well, showing the monsters only in flashes, silhouettes, and fast action, and it's aged pretty well, with the exception of some weird misogynistic dialog towards the end (which felt out of place even back then) and the odd Matrix reference, for some reason. A must for werewolf fans or action-horror enthusiasts. Stars a bunch of great actors, too, including Kevin McKidd, Sean Pertwee, and Liam Cunningham.
Cooper washes out of special forces trials for refusing to kill a dog, despite being top of his class. Later, back with his army squad on a training exercise, he unknowingly goes up against the same special forces squad he was thrown out of and its unsympathetic leader, but things take a turn when the special forces group is found massacred by creatures unknown, and they must take shelter in the only house for miles around to try to survive the night. Tensions build and secrets are revealed as ammunition runs low and desperate plans for survival are adopted.
This new Second Sight 4k remaster seems to be from the same master as the older 4k remaster, but this has much better black levels, contrast, and saturation (although they're still a little iffy in places). All the commentary tracks are included, as well as 5.1 and stereo sound, and subtitles in English in German are included.
