DESCRIPTION
MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage-or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung (Chin Han) has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) at the direction of Jax (Mehcad Brooks), a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang) and rogue mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson), as he prepares to stand with Earth's greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana-the immense power from within his soul-in time to save not only his family but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Mortal Kombat, film diretto da Simon McQuoid, è ambientato a Earthrealm, ovvero il regno della Terra, e racconta la storia di Cole Young (Lewis Tan), campione di MMA, perseguitato dai Cryomancer e da Sub Zero (Joe Taslim), il miglior guerriero dell'impero. In verità, la ragione si nasconde nella sua eredità, che Young ignora, e su quel marchio del drago che l'uomo ha sin dalla nascita. Inoltre, è proprio l’Imperatore dell’Outworld, Shang Tsung (Chin Han), a volerlo morto ed è per questo che Cole, preoccupato che possa accadere qualcosa di terribile alla sua famiglia, decide di mettersi in viaggio alla ricerca di Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Maggiore delle Forze Speciali, nata anche lei con il marchio.
Successivamente Cole si rea nel tempio dedicato a Lord Raiden, un antico Dio che protegge Earthrealm, sotto cui si rifugiano tutti coloro che hanno sulla pelle il marchio del drago. Qui l'uomo fa la conoscenza di Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), Kano (Josh Lawson), guerrieri esperti che si allenano nel tempio e con cui Cole inizia a esercitarsi per combattere contro l'Outworld così da salvare la sua famiglia. Ma riuscirà a liberare il suo arcana, il grande potere celato nella sua anima?
