La storia si sposta nel passato, quando Saul usava ancora il suo vero nome, James "Jimmy" McGill, e cercava in tutti i modi di affermarsi come avvocato. Suo fratello Chuck è un ottimo avvocato e fondatore dello studio legale HHM, ma fermo a causa di una presunta elettrosensibilità.
