Two test pilots, Isamu Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman, both compete for a fighter jet project on the planet Eden, and reunite with female friend Myung Fon Lone, who is in town to promote Sharon Apple, and artificial intelligence pop star.
2040 AD. Humankind's first colonized planet, Eden. Master pilot Isamu Dyson is assigned to New Edwards Flight Center as the test pilot for the prototype variable fighter, the YF-19. YF-21 pilot Guld Goa Bowmann is also there. Once friends and now rivals, the two compete in prototype trials. Meanwhile, virtual singer Sharon Apple has come to Eden to hold a concert. Nel 1999 un'astronave aliena si schianta su un'isola della Terra.
Temendo un'invasione aliena, l'astronave viene ricostruita per renderla ammiraglia di una flotta basata sulla nuova tecnologia acquisita.
Il giorno dell'inaugurazione della nuova astronave, ribattezzata Super Dimensional Fortress 1 Macross (abbreviato SDF-1), un meccanismo di autodifesa della nave si attiva inaspettatamente, sparando una
cannonata interplanetaria che distrugge alcune navi aliene in orbita intorno alla terra e attirando quindi l'attenzione degli Zentradi, un popolo dedito alla guerra.......
Storyline
In the middle of World War III in 1999, an alien ship appears out of nowhere to crash on deserted Macross island. In response to this event, a cease fire is declared and the ship is explored by all the nations
of the planet who learn of a potential extraterrestrial threat that could come to retrieve it. In response, the nations of the world unite to create the United Nations Space Navy or UN Spacy for short. For ten
years, the ship is rebuilt as Super Dimensional Fortress One (SDF-1) and its technology is adopted for use. On the day of its formal launch, the alien foe arrives as the Zentrani who are determined to retrieve
the ship intact for its technology. As Earth defends itself, we also see the personal lives of the crew and residents of the ship as the war profoundly changes them as they fight to stay alive. Meanwhile, the
Zentrani learn that their enemy bears an uncomfortable resemble to their creators...
