DESCRIPTION
An intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat, behaving as if he's indifferent to death. The Hurt Locker, film diretto da Kathryn Bigelow, è la storia di un un gruppo di artificieri dell'esercito americano in missione in Iraq. Tutti i militari della squadra sono stati addestrati per affrontare qualsiasi tipo di situazione pericolosa, a vivere sotto forte stress e con la costante paura che un attacco a sorpresa metta fine alle loro esistenze. A capo di un’unità di soldati c’è il sergente Will James (Jeremy Renner): gli altri membri sono il sergente Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) e l’artificiere Eldridge (Brian Geraghty). I tre si destreggiano in numerose operazioni e sanno bene come affrontare i rischi del mestiere, legati da una profonda lealtà gli uni verso gli altri. Qualche giorno prima del congedo, Sanborn e James mettono in salvo Eldridge da due guerriglieri iracheni che lo avevano rapito. Durante la missione, però, l’uomo viene ferito per sbaglio da Will a una gamba. Il soldato sopravvissuto si trova costretto a fare ritorno negli Stati Uniti per curarsi e questo gli impone inevitabilmente di interrompere il servizio militare, portandolo a nutrire un forte risentimento nei confronti del suo sergente capo. Anche gli altri due membri della squadra poi sopravvivono per grazia divina a una bomba nascosta su un uomo iracheno. Sebbene si tratti dell’ennesimo episodio, stavolta si mettono a pensare seriamente al senso delle loro vite, a come siano sempre appese a un filo e quanto la loro incolumità sia in realtà legata alla sorte. Entrambi fanno ritorno a casa e cercano di riprendere la loro quotidianità.
