Trama:
In un futuro non troppo lontano, il 95% dell'umanità è estinto e i sopravvissuti sono costretti a vivere in colonie sotterrane. In superficie a dominare sono insetti e animali a sangue freddo trasformati in gigantesche bestie feroci dalle sostanze chimiche ricadute sulla Terra dopo la distruzione di un asteroide con i missili atomici. Tra i sopravvissuti c'è il giovane Joel, unico membro della sua comune a non avere una compagna al proprio fianco.
