Geronimo (Geronimo: An American Legend) is a 1993 film directed by Walter Hill.
In 1885 in the United States, Lieutenant Charles B. Gatewood, a former Southern officer who speaks the Apache language and admires Geronimo, the leader of the Chiricahua Indians, is commissioned by Brigadier General George Crook to protect them until they arrive at the military camp. . Gatewood and Geronimo, during the journey, after neutralizing the attack of a gang of Texans who want to hang the apache, exchange tokens of friendship. But the truce with the United States army is broken when a sorcerer who preaches the revolt is killed and Geronimo, after having made a massacre, escapes with some men and forms gangs that give themselves to the raid and massacre of the colonists, heading towards Mexico. Crook, resigning, is replaced by General Nelson Miles who quarantines Gatewood and his colleague Britton Davis, sacks Indian guides and sends five thousand soldiers against a surviving Apache group of a few people, with women and children, who evades all searches. even hunted down and reduced to the limit. In trouble, Miles secretly asks Gatewood and white scout Al Sieber to track down Geronimo to offer him an honorable surrender. In a confrontation with the white bounty hunters who threaten Chato, their Indian guide, Al Sieber dies. Gatewood finally manages to track down Geronimo, the friend-foe, who agrees to give himself up. The train, seen by the great warrior in a premonition, transports him and what remains of the Chiricahuas to exile. The whites, however, do not keep their promise to release him after two years in Florida and keep him in prison until his death.
