L’ora del lupo, film diretto da Alistair Banks Griffin, è ambientato a New York nell’estate del 1977, meglio nota come “Summer of Sam”. E’ infatti in questo periodo che si intensificarono le attività omicide, nonché i messaggi rivelatori, del famoso serial killer statunitense David Berkowitz, altresì noto come “Son of Sam”. In quell’estate di forti tensioni sociali, l’ex esponente del movimento della Controcultura, June Leigh (Naomi Watts), osserva quanto avviene in strada dal suo appartamento del South Bronx. La donna è affetta da agorafobia, per questo motivo non esce mai di casa, utilizzando come unici mezzi di comunicazione con l’esterno lo spioncino della porta e l’interfono del palazzo. E’ proprio attraverso quest’ultimo che un misterioso interlocutore silenzioso inizia a tormentare June, citofonandole ossessivamente, senza mai proferire parola.
