Dogma è un film del 1999 scritto e diretto da Kevin Smith.
Il film è una chiara satira sulla Chiesa cattolica e sulla fede che ha causato,
all'epoca dell'uscita cinematografica, parecchie proteste da parte dei conservatori più accaniti.
L'angelo Grigori ( angeli detti "osservatori" ) Bartleby e l'angelo della morte Loki sono stati cacciati dal cielo da Dio dopo che Bartleby ha convinto Loki a deporre la spada ardente e a non uccidere più per conto di Dio.
I due vengono esiliati nel Wisconsin, luogo che considerano peggio dell'inferno.
Intanto, in una chiesa di Red Bank, nel New Jersey, il cardinale Ignatius Glick festeggia il centenario della riconsacrazione della chiesa con l'indulgenza plenaria.
Passando per le porte della chiesa, infatti, ogni peccato verrà perdonato e, in caso di morte, all'anima sarà concesso di varcare le porte del paradiso.
La notizia, grazie ad una soffiata del demone Azrael, giunge alle orecchie di Bartleby e Loki.
Grazie a questa indulgenza infatti, potrebbero ottenere il perdono dei loro peccati ed il permesso di rientrare in paradiso dimostrando che Dio non è infallibile,
e mettendo quindi in discussione la legge sulla quale si regge l'intera esistenza del creato, distruggendo così l'esistenza stessa.
Per fermare il piano dei due angeli, l'angelo Metatron, Serafino che agisce come Voce di Dio, si reca da Bethany Sloane, una ragazza che lavora in una clinica per aborti,
che però non si sente convinta ad affrontare questa avventura, avendo ormai perso la fede da molto tempo a causa di varie sfortune che le sono capitate nella vita, compreso un'infezione all'utero che l'ha resa sterile.
Metatron spiega a Bethany che con l'aiuto di due profeti, Jay e Zittino Bob, dovrà recarsi nel New Jersey ed impedire ai due angeli di varcare le porte della chiesa....
Dogma is a 1999 American adventure fantasy comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith,
who also stars in the film along with an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino,
Alan Rickman, Bud Cort, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, George Carlin, Janeane Garofalo, Alanis Morissette, and Jason Mewes.
The fourth film set in the View Askewniverse is a hypothetical-scenario film revolving around the Catholic Church and Catholic belief,
which caused organized protests and much controversy in many countries, delaying release of the film and leading to at least two death threats against Smith.
The film follows two fallen angels, Loki and Bartleby, who, through a loophole in Catholic Dogma, find a way to get back into Heaven after being cast out by God.
However, as existence is founded on the principle that God is infallible, their success would prove God wrong and thus undo all creation.
The last scion and two prophets are sent by the Voice of God to stop them...
