O gelado e implacável território canadense, após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, é o cenário em que o grande John Wayne lidera um elenco de astros, nesta meticulosamente reconstituída aventura dramática. Wayne é Dooley, um ex-piloto, que é forçado a aterrissar seu avião em um lago congelado, depois de perder o rumo.
