DESCRIPTION
An Inca legend says the Inca Empire was destroyed by the gods when a gold and jeweled star burst was stolen from the Temple of the Sun centuries ago, and the ancient civilization will spring anew when the treasure is returned. The natives want it but so does Harry Steele, an American adventurer of slightly-shady ways who wants it for personal gain, as does his adversary, a grizzled old man even more into skulduggery than Steele. The latter teams up with Elena Antonescu, an Iron Curtain refugee fleeing from the MKVD. She can help him get a plane and he can help her escape Peru for the relative safety of Mexico.Is there a chance they will end up in a bickering love-hate relationship?... Is there a chance an American archaeologist, Dr. Stanley Moorehead, will come along as one corner of a romantic triangle?... Is there a chance that Yma Sumac (billed third on the posters and ads and special billed in the film), who can't act but can sing, will sing a few songs?... Sinopse Pt Br:
No Peru há uma lenda que diz que o império inca foi destruído pelos deuses, quando há séculos atrás um disco de ouro incrustado com várias pedras preciosas foi roubado do Templo do Sol, e que a antiga civilização renascerá quando o tesouro reaparecer. Os nativos querem isto, mas Harry Steele (Charlton Heston), um aventureiro americano que às vezes trapaceia para obter o que deseja, quer o disco para seu "uso pessoal". O rival dele, Ed Morgan (Thomas Mitchell), um homem velho, está até disposto a matar. Paralelamente chega ao país Emma Antonescu (Nicole Maurey), uma romena que não tem documentos e quer tentar chegar aos Estados Unidos, pois teme voltar ao seu país. Anton Marcu (Leon Askin) chegou ao Peru em um pequeno avião particular, para tentar levá-la de volta. Sabendo do avião, Harry e Emma o roubam, mas ela queria ir para o México, pois de lá seria fácil chegar aos Estados Unidos. Harry alega que se fizerem o trajeto lógico para quem tem 8 horas de combustível estarão esperando por ele, assim vai para as ruínas de Machu Pichu, onde possivelmente está o disco de ouro. Entretanto existem outras pessoas no local, inclusive Stanley Moorehead (Robert Young), um arqueólogo americano que logo se apaixona por Emma e a pede em casamento. Isto para ela seria o ideal, pois entraria nos Estados Unidos como esposa de Stanley, mas há um problema: ela está totalmente apaixonada por Harry.
