Episode: What a Woman Wants (6x4)
Episode Plot:
Last week, we said goodbye (and good riddance) to Mitchell, who let Ra'mon do all the work. In the meantime, Epperson and Qristyl feuded and Heidi repeated scripted lines. What will happen this week? Time to find out ..."Allo!" Heidi squeaks. "Were down to 13 designers. Lucky 13!" The challenge this week is simple: make 13 women happy. "It could be homeless people to Eskimos," Nicholas theorizes. Um, probably not. In fact, the 13 women are models. "Say hello to your clients for this challenge," says Tim, explaining that the models are prepping for a big industry show. "What they wear will very likely be their ticket to the future." In other words, don't screw it up. The contestants get started by huddling with their models."It's like designing something for myself if I was a black girl," Johnny says. Epperson, meanwhile, is getting lots (and lots) of instruction from model Matar -- not a whole lot of which makes much sense. Louise, meanwhile, isn't too keen on her models preference for glaring red. Shirin isn't too keen on her models affinity for blue and gold. "It's not me at all," the contestant says. Kojii the model wants a 1950s look, which Logan isn't overly familiar with. It could get ugly (literally). One shopping trip to Mood later, the designers return to FIDM and get stitching. Tim enters to "check in on you." Althea's model wants a simple black skirt with "a man's cigarette jacket" -- a combo Tim says has a "wow factor." He then sees innovation in the brown (not red) dress that Epperson is creating. On the other hand, Qristyl's dress looks like she has been "rolling around in bed." Ouch. Logan doesn't want his lacy blue outfit to look like a "Smurf prom dress." Tim declares the look a "conundrum."Before the models enter, Epperson takes a moment to talk to his family on speaker phone. Of course, he quickly breaks down. "I hope all of this pays off because I choose not to ever be away from them like this again," he tells the camera through tears. Qristyl, meanwhile, has scrapped her dress completely and started over with a "safe" black look. The models enter and LOVE their outfits! But Logan worries that people might be looking as his goth model for the wrong reasons. So nerve-wracking!The next morning, Logan puts on tight silver pants and shows off his chiseled abs before heading to FIDM. Johnny, in the meantime, is as uncertain and nervous as ever. He seems to need near-constant reassurance. Qristyl worries that her design is too simple, but also notes that all "women like a chic, black dress in their closet." Amen. Tim enters with the models closely behind him. The final round of alternations begin. "I'm not really nervous because I'm really confident in what I made," Hannah says. Althea's three-piece outfit looks great to her model, but not so great to suddenly catty Irina, who declares the design to be a disaster. The designers race to the finish, etc.Runway time. "Allo!" Heidi squeaks. Hmm. Any bets on what she'll say next? "Welcome to the runway," the uber-spontaneous host continues. "As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out." We then meet the judges: Marc Bouwer, Zoe Glassner and Jennifer Rade (where are Nina and Michael?). The models take to the runway to show off their new duds. Not surprisingly, the contestants LOVE their designs! Epperson feels like "no one else is doing what I'm doing here." But is that good? Louise feels her model looks "wow worthy." Hannah proclaims that she "nailed it." Only Logan acknowledges that his outfit is a "risk."The show over, Heidi calls out the following names representing this week's crop of unremarkable, but safe designers: Louise, Irina, Christopher, Nicolas, Gordana, Shirin, Ramon. The remaining designers have the highest and lowest scores. But, wait, what are the rules again, Heidi? "One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out," she oh-so-helpfully explains. Hannah and her black-and-purple number. "It's just beautifully executed," Marc says. Logan steps up and, most unfortunately, has his dress described as something from a "prom" by more than one judge. Is Epperson's outfit "romantic and punk at the same time" -- as his model wanted? Marc says he loves the dress. Heidi loves the dress very much, but "she needs help up top." Says Jennifer: "Job well done." Uncertain Johnny gets poor marks for his plain, purple dress. "The purse is the most interesting thing about the outfit," Jennifer says. Heidi thinks it resembles something a bridesmaid might wear. Qristyl's creation doesn't look "youthful," according to Heidi. Jennifer chides Qristyl for being too safe. Althea's brainchild, on the other hand, gets high, high marks. "This is a suit!" Zoe exclaims. After a brief judges confab, the contestants return to the runway. "One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out," Heidi reiterates. The winner ... is Althea! Cue the gentle guitar music! "It feels good because I've been in the top three before and I just really wanted that win," Althea tells the camera. And the loser? In the end, it comes down to Qristyl and Logan. "One of you will be out," Heidi says. She criticizes both rather harshly and then announces that Qristyl is a goner. "It's a little too soon for me to have been eliminated, I feel," she tells the camera. "Do I think I'm a great designer? I know I'm a great designer."Just not today, apparently.
