Overview
Are you tired of the old Notepad with its limited functionality and want something new and more powerful? Forget about Notepad because EditPad Lite will be right up your alley then! An efficient text editor, EditPad Lite is convenient, carefully designed and offers a lot of features that will surely appeal to the masses. File conversion, tabs and compatibility with Mac and UNIX files are just some of the useful feature provided by EditPad Lite. Let’s take a closer look and analyze all the features that EditPad Lite incorporates. It is certainly an interesting tool that deserves your attention.
Installation
You should be happy to find out that EditPad Lite is a tool that’s very easy to install and benefits from a care free installation. You can choose whether you want a standard, portable or advanced installation option. With a setup kit that revolves around 3Mb in size, the installation is fast and smooth. EditPad Lite doesn’t come bundled with adware or other programs and in terms of specs, you might want to know that it supports all the versions of Windows from XP onwards. It is a lightweight text editor and you will not have any problems installing and using it in a timely manner. Let’s move on to the more interesting aspects of the software product – the interface!
Interface
The interface of EditPad Lite is a joy to work with. It looks stylish and feature-packed yet it is user friendly, intuitive and it won’t pose you any problems. The toolbar is icon based and it offers plenty of features such as word wrap, fonts, auto indent and multiple undo options. As a result, EditPad Lite has a graphics app feel to it. Adding and closing tabs is done with relative ease thanks to the well placed controls and buttons. Novice users will find that EditPad Lite is a marvelous software product and a true worthy replacement of Notepad. If you ever get stuck, plenty of assistance and documentation is offered through tools such as feedback reporter, a Tip of the Day feature and a keyboard shortcuts menu.
Pros
EditPad Lite is a solid text editor that’s easy to use and jam-packed with useful features that will make your life easier. Firstly, there is no arbitrary file size limit and no arbitrary line length limit when it comes to opening files. You can open as many files as you want and switching between them is a breeze thanks to the implementation of tabs. Just click on a specific tab and you are working on the tab’s text. In addition, you can also limit EditPad Lite to one instance. Thus, an icon will appear in the system tray allowing you quick access to the tool’s features.
Selections labeled Search, Block and Convert are added by the menu bar. The Block menu stands out though because not only it blocks of text can be indented and outdented but you can also use it in order to append text, insert files and Write (save) or Print the selection. Uppercase, lowercase, invert case, initial caps and text encoding is handled by the Convert feature. As stated in the beginning of the article, EditPad Lite supports Mac and Unix files. Files between ANSI, ASCII, and Unicode as well as Unix and Mac formats can be converted using the Convert tool.
Another useful feature are the Search and Replace tool that, as you already probably guessed, will save you a lot of time. They’re easy to use and keep in mind that you can undo changes even after you saved them! Talk about unlimited undo and redo! As EditPad Lite is a globalized tool, files can be created in any language you desire. Benefiting from translation in many languages, you can create text files in English, French, Russian, Chinese and many more.
Cons
Perhaps I would love to see more skins to this excellent tool but in regards to functionality, there’s certainly no complaints!
Alternatives
Let’s have a look at some of the alternatives to EditPad Lite. The following text editors fall into this category: Notepad++, gedit, Geany, Komodo Edit, Sublime Text, UltraEdit, jEdit and more.
Conclusion
