Abacus GeomDraw is a program which is used in conjunction with Microsoft Word to produce documents containing geometrical diagrams. The diagrams using GeomDraw are bitmap images, which Word may import them as "pictures". The diagrams using GeomDraw are bitmap images, which Word may import them as "pictures". Firstly the construction of a diagram, with associate text, on the Drawing Panel, and secondly the conversion of this diagram to a bitmap image using the Save Image Panel. Facilities are provided at each stage for saving the work. Diagrams are saved into the "Diagrams" sub-folder as *.dgm, and images are saved in the "Images" sub-folder as *.bmp. In order to obtain the best printer resolution from bitmap images, the diagrams are initially constructed on the Drawing Panel in large size, and then reduced in size by the Save Image Panel for use in Word.GeomDraw is operated in two stages. Firstly the construction of a diagram, with associate text, on the Drawing Panel, and secondly the conversion of this diagram to a bitmap image using the Save Image Panel.Abacus Geometry Draw main features:Shape frame:Firstly a drop down box which allows the selection of one of the following shapes:- Arc, Circle, Ellipse, Hexagon, Line, Octagon, Pentagon, Rectangle, and Triangle.Font frame:Firstly a drop down box to select the font, either Arial or Greek. Then follows a numerical drop down box, used to determine text size, and then a text box to enter the rotation angle of the text in positive or negative degrees.Once the required settings have been made, clicking the 'Text' button enables text to be entered from the keyboard, the result appears to the left of the drawing area, at the position shown by the flashing cursor. Then using keyboard "Enter", the text is set to the required rotation and a single marker appears which may then be used to drag the text to its required location on the diagram.Tools frame:Firstly a toggle button ('Show Keyboard'), used to display the Greek keyboard layout for normal and shifted. When clicked, a display panel showing the layout, appears in the top right corner. This display panel is moveable by the use of the keyboard arrow keys, and characters may be entered directly, without using the keyboard, by clicking the appropriate light gray location on this display (white locations are inactive). Clicking the bottom left shift button brings the shifted set of characters into play.Image Tools Frame:Firstly a command button ('Set Image'), which when clicked activates the other components of this frame and transfers the diagram, with markers and grid removed, from the Drawing Panel to the Save Image Panel. Then a command button ('Set Outline'). Once a diagram has been transferred from the Drawing Panel, the first step in saving an image is to set a blue rectangular outline around the area to be converted. This is achieved by clicking this button, and then starting at the top left corner of the required area, hold down the mouse button and drag the bottom right corner of the blue rectangle to the required location. If the outline appears incorrect, it may be corrected by repeating the latter mouse operationThen a drop down box ('Size Reduction').This value sets the size reduction ratio employed in saving a Bitmap image. The higher this ratio the better the printer quality of the image. Finally a command button, 'Save Image', clicking this starts the image saving to file process.Web Page Images:To produce an image for insertion into a Web Page, construct the diagram and save to a Bitmap, using a size reduction ratio of 1:1. Then import the image, using Microsoft Word, and perform a 'Print Screen SysRq'.The image may now be pasted into a "Paint" type of program and saved to a suitable format (gif, jpeg, etc.). The advantage of using Microsoft Word as an intermediate process is that this program smooths out the edges of objects to avoid "jaggies".Abacus Geometry Draw limitations:In demo mode, all but non-alphanumerical keys of the greek virtual keyboard are inactive (there is only the left Shift key that change to allcaps.)
