Episode Plot:
A week after their first dances, all of the couples were back on "Dancing with the Stars" for another chance to impress the voters before the first elimination. Here's a look back at the leader board after the first night:Ralph & Karina: 24Kirstie & Maks: 23Chelsea & Mark: 21Hines & Kym: 21Romeo & Chelsie: 19Chris & Cheryl: 19Petra & Dmitry: 18Kendra & Louis: 18Sugar Ray & Anna: 17Wendy & Tony: 14Mike & Lacey: 13Sugar Ray & Anna: After getting some criticism for his posture out of hold, Sugar Ray faces the jive. The former boxing champ once known for his light feet in the ring struggled with the fast pace in rehearsal. He's hoping to entertain the crowd with his boxing-inspired routine. Head judge Len Goodman says Sugar Ray is in jeopardy and the crowd responds with a chorus of boos. "Talk to the hand," he tells them. He says it lacked "refinement and any true dancing quality," but the entertainment was fantastic. Bruno Tonioli says it was pleasant to watch, but it was thin around the edges. The movements with the feet were loose, he says. Carrie Ann Inaba agrees that although Sugar Ray's face sold a 10, the lower half was out of control. She asks him to bring more of his crisp, sharp moves from the boxing ring to the dance floor. Scores: 6, 5, 6. Total: 17Kendra & Louis: After impressing Carrie Ann last week by not missing a step, Kendra has to ditch her inner tomboy for the quickstep. "Being a lady" was just not coming to her in rehearsal and she got emotional after realizing how much she lacks confidence. Bruno says Kendra was too tight when she had to look effortless and natural. Carrie Ann says she wants to see more than just choreography -- and she did. She says Kendra took a step forward and "there was a newfound elegance." Len says Kendra's posture was a bit hit or miss, but her "chesticles" were pushing into Louis. Overall, he says, she did "an excellent job." Scores: 7, 6, 6. Total: 19Chelsea & Mark: The Disney star started fairly strong with a 21 last week and has to follow up strongly. Mark amps up the choreography for her jive with some extra tricks that made Chelsea nervous during rehearsals. The high-energy routine gets big cheers from the crowd. Carrie Ann says this wasn't the time or place for that kind of choreography. She says there was "so little jive" in the routine. Len agrees and says Mark included "too much messing about" and "there wasn't enough jive content." Bruno says he "liked the weird and wonderful side of it." But, he agrees the jive aspects could have been sharper. Scores: 6, 5, 7. Total: 18Chris & Cheryl: After impressing his partner last week, the WWE star incurred her wrath during rehearsal and he realized that her could take any of his wrestling trainers on and he actually fears her. He aims to give Cheryl a solid frame during their quickstep. Len says his expectation was that Chris would be a "big lumbering lump" but it was great. Bruno says he likes a man who responds well to strict discipline and that it was all under control. Carrie Ann says, "I'm loving me some Chris Jericho right now" and that everything was in place -- including Chris' apparently ample "bum." Scores: 8, 7, 8. Total: 23Petra & Dmitry: The future that Len was worried about is now upon Petra: The jive. The dance is typically difficult for tall people. Dmitry put her on a trampoline to get a feel for what it's like to give in to fall in a controlled way. Bruno says Petra s equally beautiful as a floosie or an uptown girl. He tells her to work on her core strength, which will help in her precision and placement of her moves. Carrie Ann is floored by how stunning Petra is to look at. She was impressed with Petra's kicks and flicks. Len said it was a "fatal combination: short skirt, long legs, bad technique," but adds that she did it beautifully. Petra proceeds to kiss all of the judges. Scores: 6, 6, 6. Total: 18Kirstie & Maks: After surprising the judges with her cha cha cha last week and landing in second place for the night, Kirstie faces the quickstep. Her biggest challenge in rehearsal is "just being quick enough." She also shares that if she's losing five pounds each week she'll need to make the finals to reach her "DWTS" weight-loss goal of 40 pounds. Carrie Ann says Kirstie is in her element and is "so in tune with her body" and that her connection with Maks is great. Len says she lost energy near the end and there was a slight, capping his review with, "It was good, but it wasn't great." Bruno tells her not to worry about the weight because she's got talent. He says she started beautifully and started to wilt toward the end. Scores: 7, 6, 7. Total: 20Mark & Lacey: After falling to last place last week, Mark sets out to "explode Len and Bruno's face with my fiery dance moves." He is serious about turning his "embarrassing scores around" and using his low point totals last week as motivation. They dance the jive. Len says the good news is it was better than last week, but only slightly. He says it was all over the place, but he was "smiling the whole way through." Bruno says at times Mark's kicks were very good, but that at other times he "looked like a fly stuck on flypaper." Carrie Ann says there were times when his technique was good, but that it was too clear when he was jumping from one section to the next. Scores: 6, 5, 6. Total: 17Romeo & Chelsie: He floored Carrie Ann with his sex appeal last week, and he's trying to work the charm this week in his quickstep. He says he doesn't know what it means to be charming because he was born in the '90s, not the 1900s. Bruno says that Romeo is "the one to watch." He loves the transitions "from cheeky, funny to sexy, cool." He says Romeo can improve on his posture, but he's "got everything it takes to make a brilliant dancer." Carrie Ann agrees, but says Romeo has to work on his posture. Len says, flatly, "That was the best dance of the night, I loved it." Scores: 7, 8, 8. Total: 23Wendy & Tony: She landed second from the bottom of the leader board after withholding her personality last week. She vows to return this week with a quickstep that will wow us. She was again timid in rehearsal, worrying that her assets were a bit too bouncy. Carrie Ann thanks her for showing more of herself on the dance floor. She says Wendy "lost a little steam in the middle," but it bounced back at the end. Len says there were issues with the movement throughout, "but it's an improvement." Bruno says it's good to see more of who Wendy is and it was was a step in the right direction. Scores: 6, 5, 6. Total: 17Ralph & Karina: After anding the top spot last week, Ralph says he'll never forget the crowd's reaction to his moves, saying they were a highlight of his career. He brought his two teenage kids into rehearsal and they gave him solid reviews. Len says it was "OK" and was a bit too aggressive with the arms. He says Raph "attacked the dance a little bit too much," but adds that he liked it. Bruno says Ralph has a "huge, huge, huge likability factor," but that Len is right in that the jive requires extreme precision and sometimes he lost the timing and his hand placements. "There is work to do, but obviously you are very, very pleasing to watch," he says. Carrie Ann agrees and says that if Ralph wants to go further he has to be sharper, but he is "just so much fun to watch." Scores: 7, 7, 7. Total: 21Hines & Kym: After proving he's going to be a force last week, Hines faces the quickstep. In rehearsal, he was worried about keeping a posture that is very difficult to maintain after several football injuries and operations on her rotator cuff. Bruno calls Hines a "full-time dancer" (a play on the song, "Part-Time Lover," which he danced to). He says the chemistry was great. Carrie Ann says Emmitt Smith will have to retire his "twinkle- toes" title and hand it to Hines. Len says Hines maintained his frame and had good movement. "I was very impressed," Len says, "well done." Scores: 8, 7, 8. Total: 23LEADER BOARD:Ralph & Karina: 24 + 21 = 45Hines & Kym: 21 + 23 = 44Kirstie & Maks: 23 + 20 = 43Romeo & Chelsie: 19 + 23 = 42Chris & Cheryl: 19 + 23 = 42Chelsea & Mark: 21 + 18 = 39Kendra & Louis: 18 + 19 = 37Petra & Dmitry: 18 + 18 = 36Sugar Ray & Anna: 17 + 17 = 34Wendy & Tony: 14 = 17 = 31Mike & Lacey: 13 + 17 = 30
