A couple are driving home when their car breaks down just as the Purge commences. Meanwhile, a police sergeant goes out into the streets to get revenge on the man who killed his son, and a mother and daughter run from their home after assailants destroy it. The five people meet up as they attempt to survive the night in Los Angeles.
Qualche anno dopo gli eventi raccontati in La notte del giudizio, la situazione negli Stati Uniti si è ulteriormente aggravata. L'appuntamento semestrale con la "purificazione", ossia sei ore in cui decade il reato di omicidio, è ormai atteso da gruppi organizzati che si preparano al meglio per affrontare il momento. Durante la notte della purificazione cinque persone si incontrano e restano insieme per proteggersi a vicenda e vedere la luce del giorno seguente.
