Adaptacja powieści H.G. Wellsa pod tym samym tytułem. W małym miasteczku w USA spada dziwny meteor. Ludzie są zafascynowani tym zjawiskiem. Jedynie doktor Clayton Forrester jest sceptyczny. Jego niepokój budzą również doniesienia o podobnych zjawiskach na całym świecie. Jak się później okazuje, meteor jest kapsułą, w której na Ziemię przybyły istoty z Marsa. Rozpoczyna się inwazja.
