Dopo il grande successo di pubblico e critica della prima serie del documentario di BBC, “Planet Earth II” è tornato quindi ad esplorare il Pianeta concentrando l’attenzione su isole, montagne, giungle, deserti, praterie e, per la prima volta, città.
“Planet Earth II” è stato interamente girato in full UHD+HDR visitando 40 diversi paesi, nel corso di 117 viaggi, per un totale di 2.089 giorni di riprese.
Solo per l’Isola di Zavodovski, in Antartide, si è reso necessario un anno di programmazione.
Un’altra troupe ha trascorso cinque mesi, nell’arco di due anni, accampata sul Delta dell’Okavango, in Botswana.
“Planet Earth II” è riuscito a catturare e, cosa non meno importante, raccontare il mondo naturale con una narrazione raffinata ed una qualità pari a quella cinematografica.
Eccezionali, infatti, le risorse tecnologiche impiegate dal Natural History Unit di BBC: tra queste, stabilizzatori di immagine, droni e telecamere a sensore.
La tecnica cinematografica d’avanguardia adottata, ha reso visibile l’invisibile e impensabili prima d’ora le sequenze dedicate agli animali, quest’ultime proposte con un dettaglio senza precedenti. Non a caso, la voce narrante della serie originale – Sir David Attenborough – ha affermato: “Dieci anni fa queste riprese non si potevano fare!”.
