On a rainy October morning, fifteen Danes have their lives turned upside down when the metro train they are traveling on is hijacked by unknown perpetrators, who will threaten to kill each of them, one by one, if their demands aren't met. This is the beginning of a historic hostage situation that, over the course of one single week, changes Denmark forever. The official Denmark finds itself caught in a whirlwind. The politicians argue whether or not to negotiate with terrorists. In the press, there are discussions on where the line is drawn in portraying the captives and seeking out their families. Ordinary Danes are thinking that it could just as well have been them. Among the hostages, the thoughts vary between rebellion, negotiation and apathy, but one thought is shared by all: "Am I going to die now?".

01. The metro train carrying fifteen people from various backgrounds is hijacked by unknown perpetrators.
02. Naja, the journalist who was fired for her unauthorized interview, starts a national fund-raising campaign to raise the ransom for the hostages.
03. Philip is planning an armed response to the first hostage execution. As the mission is risky it creates a rift in the negotiating team.
04. TTF is getting closer to the hostage taker's identity while Naja gets second thoughts with regards to facilitating the fund-raising campaign, but then she meets Jonas, the hostage Leon's son.
05. In the garage the police find a wall with newspaper clips of Philip's time as a hostage. Naja is asked to do another interview with a hostage, and this time the police want to make Naja an allie. The hostages try to take matters into their own hands by attacking one of the terrorists during the interview.
06. With the hostage Bodil just killed by the hostage takers, the police's work keeps growing. TTF's investigation leads them to sources in the Danish military and they seem to be close to a breakthrough.
07. Philip learns the identity of the main hostage taker and is choked about his personal involvement in the case that leaves a role for Naja to play as well.
08. Philip goes down into the metro himself hoping to free the last three remaining hostages and is confronted by the man he thought was dead.

Op een regenachtige ochtend in oktober kapen drie zwaarbewapende mannen een treinstel van de metro in Kopenhagen. Ze gijzelen 15 mensen, dwingen hen uit te stappen op het spoor en brengen hen naar een leegstaand metrostation in aanbouw.
Philip Nørgaard (Johannes Lassen) van de antiterreurbrigade haast zich naar de plaats van de gijzeling. Aan het veiligheidscordon ontmoet hij tot zijn verbazing Louise Falck (Sarah Hjort Ditlevsen), met wie hij een af-en-aan-relatie heeft. Zij zit in het team dat moet onderhandelen met de gijzelnemers.
Die nemen contact op en maken hun eisen bekend: een losgeld van 4 miljoen euro en een vrije aftocht. Als hun eisen niet ingewilligd worden, zullen ze de gegijzelden een na een ombrengen. Kort daarna krijgt journaliste Naja Toft (Paprika Steen) een telefoontje van de leider van de gijzelnemers, die zich Alpha laat noemen. Hij biedt haar een exclusief live interview aan met een van de gegijzelden. Ze gaat daarop in en hoopt zo een rol te kunnen spelen als tussenpersoon tussen de gijzelnemers en de politie.
Elke aflevering van de reeks volgt één dag in de dramatische gijzelingszaak die heel Denemarken in haar ban houdt. Het land is verdeeld over de vraag of er met de terroristen mag onderhandeld worden.
In de publieke opinie worden ook vragen gesteld over de manier waarop het leven van de gegijzelden en hun familie te grabbel worden gegooid in de pers.
Bij de gegijzelden zelf neemt de wanhoop toe. En Philip Nørgaard, die krijgt steeds meer het gevoel dat de zaak iets te maken heeft met zijn eigen gijzeling en spectaculaire ontsnapping, een jaar geleden tijdens een militaire missie in het Midden-Oosten.
