Alla fine del corso, in un attimo di follia, Gomer Pyle, uccide il sergente e poi si suicida. Arrivati in Vietnam, un gruppo di marines, tra cui Joker, rimane bloccato nella città di Hue, ed alcuni di loro vengono uccisi da un cecchino.
