They become the toast of society; but one man believes them to be a threat to the human race. .: Trama :. Cornelius e Zira (le scimmie-scienziato che aiutarono Taylor nel primo film) insieme al dottor Milo riparano l'astronave di Taylor, fuggendo dal pianeta prima che esso esploda. L'astronave, dopo aver lasciato l'atmosfera terrestre, viaggia a ritroso nel tempo e le tre scimmie si ritrovano sulla terra nel passato (anni settanta). Dopo aver ammarato, vengono tratti in salvo dall'esercito americano, celando la facoltà di saper parlare e di essere scimmie evolute; vengono così scambiate per animali comuni (l'esercito teorizza che facciano parte di qualche progetto dell'ex URSS per l'esplorazione spaziale) e vengono portate nell'infermeria dello zoo, dove sono alloggiate in una delle gabbie dell'infermeria, con un gorilla nella gabbia attigua. Qui vengono sopposti da una coppia di veterinari a semplici test per verificarne le capacità, ma Zira, stanca del trattamento - che ritiene stupido - comincia a parlare.
